Beijing metro handles 3.58 billion trips in 2025
Beijing's urban rail transit system handled 3.58 billion passenger trips in 2025 as the city stepped up efforts to improve service quality and operational efficiency, according to a report by Beijing News on Monday.
Data released on the website for Beijing Infrastructure Investment showed that by the end of 2025, the network had expanded to 909 kilometers in operating mileage. Daily ridership averaged 9.8 million trips, with 11.15 million on weekdays.
The figures come from a third-party evaluation of Beijing's metro system, requested by the Beijing Commission of Transport. Covering 27 operating lines, the assessment examined passenger satisfaction, service capacity, and operational indicators. Newly opened sections operating for less than one year, including the southern extension of Line 6, the middle section of Line 17, and Line 18, were not included in the evaluation.
Survey results showed passengers gave strong positive feedback across multiple aspects, including station access, environment, order, and facility operations. Service capacity remained at a high level in ticketing, waiting, and basic support. Operational indicators also performed strongly, with full marks achieved in 10 metrics, including train services and facility reliability.
The metro system intends to continue to prioritize service improvements, strengthen operational safety, and better align capacity with demand to provide safer and more efficient travel, the evaluation report said.
The rail network's strong performance comes alongside steady operations in other modes of public transport. Data from the Beijing Bureau of Statistics showed that by the end of 2025, the city's public bus and trolleybus network comprised 1,252 routes, with a total operating length of 28,928.8 kilometers, carrying 1.6 billion passenger trips throughout the year.
