Prosthesis enables quake survivor to type on keyboard
Ma Yuanjiang, a 41-year-old resident in Wenchuan county, Sichuan province, received a prosthesis before the 10th anniversary of the Wenchuan earthquake.
Thanks to the financial assistance of a charity organization in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Ma received this prosthesis, which uses artificial intelligence to help him hold things and type on keyboards.
The prosthesis was made by the Icelandic company Ossur, a global leader in the production of prosthetics. Ma is the first individual in China to try the new technology, according to Sichuan Daily.
When the magnitude 8.0 Wenchuan earthquake took place on May 12, 2008, Ma was buried in the rubble for 179 hours.
He was fortunate to have survived the quake, which killed 69,226 people and left 17,923 missing. But his left hand was amputated.
