Born in 1963, Xie Chen and Xie Jing are twins. The brothers both suffer from dysaudia, hearing difficulties. They were unemployed in the 1990s and decided to take matters into their own hands and set up a shoe-repair street stall in Shenyang city. Xu Liang was born in Jixi, Heilongjiang province in 1989. A medical mishap caused a loss of hearing when he was two. Xu went to a special school where painting was his favorite subject and he studied Chinese traditional painting. He also became interested in tattoos.
