Chinese New Year is celebrated annually in Indonesia and has been acknowledged as a national holiday since 2000. It was President Abdurahman Wahid, who served from 1999 to 2001, who first acknowledged it. This year, in some places, sculptures and photos of goats also have been put out to welcome the Year of the Goat. On New Year's Eve or on New Year's morning, Indonesians of Chinese descent usually go to a temple to pray. But festivities can be seen beyond places of worship. In the shopping malls, for example, lanterns and dragon dance performances can also be spotted.
