Which 和 that 都可以引出一個(gè)定語從句，但是兩個(gè)詞有一點(diǎn)本質(zhì)上的不同，那就是 that 有限定性，而 which 則沒有限定性。具體說就是，that 從句引出的內(nèi)容是主句里不可缺少的，去掉了句子的意思就不完整了。而 which 引出的從句是對(duì)主語所作的附帶說明，去掉了也不影響主句意思的完整性。比如，以下兩句話，你看看怎么譯成漢語？
The cars, which have automatic gears, are new.
The cars that have automatic gears are new.
