To celebrate the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, 57 domestic films were jointly recommended on Sept 22 by the Arts Office of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, along with the Film Office of China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.

In 1959, at the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, China began to produce films especially for National Day on a large scale. Since then, except for the period of "cultural revolution", this kind of film has become a regular genre. Over the past years, the film genre, with Chinese characteristics, has reflected rich meaning through portraying changes in people's social and cultural lives.
