BEIJING - China's Health Ministry has pledged to improve its supervision measures to keep the country's food safe from contamination.

In its annual work plan posted on the ministry website Thursday, the ministry vowed to "blacklist" food that is mixed with non-edible ingredients or food additives.

So far, health authorities have published six blacklists of 80 illegal food additives to stop them being sold on the market, according to the ministry.

The ministry will further review and revamp the standards for food additives, contaminants and microorganism in food production, according to the work plan.

Campaigns will be launched to crack down on the addition of illegal chemical additives into nutrition supplements and improve the efficiency in tackling food safety scandals, it says.
