CHANGSHA - A tourist bus overturned on a highway in the rural area in Hunan province Sunday, killing 10 people and injuring 33 others, local authorities said.

The accident happened at about 3:40 pm on the highway near a village in Yongshun county, when the bus carrying 49 people overturned, the county government said in a statement Sunday.

The injured people have been rushed to different hospitals in the nearby Zhangjiajie city, the statement said.

Local police are investigating the cause of the accident, it said.
