China's top court reiterates enhancing quality, efficiency of environmental case handling
China's top court has reiterated the importance of safeguarding people's livelihoods by enhancing the quality and efficiency of environmental case handling, calling for increased efforts to maintain social stability and ensure resource security.
On Thursday, the court released details of six landmark cases, highlighting the need for judges across the country to adopt a people-centered approach to support high-quality development and protect the public's legitimate rights to essential services like gas, heat, and water.
In one case involving a liquefied gas company, a local court worked with government departments to implement comprehensive measures, making every effort to ensure the safe handling of hazardous chemical assets, maintain a stable gas supply for residents, properly relocate the company's employees, and protect creditors' legitimate interests. The efficient enforcement of the ruling successfully integrated workplace safety, public welfare, and legal rights protection.
In another case, an electricity supply contract dispute between a water and hydropower company and local villagers was resolved by a local court in collaboration with government departments. Thanks to mediation efforts, the grassroots court addressed long-standing issues related to rural power grid renovation, balancing the interests of both the company and the villagers, which played a big role in ensuring electricity access for over 200 rural households, facilitating power grid upgrades, and contributing to rural revitalization.
Additionally, the top court has released cases related to public services involving water, electricity, and heating to uphold the fair and proper use of energy resources, regulate the order of energy supply and consumption, and address dishonest behaviors such as illegal occupation or resale of public resources and unauthorized suspension of heating services. This initiative is designed to maintain market integrity firmly.
