China blasts Japan's denial of its pursuit of neo-militarism

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning blasted Tokyo's denial of its pursuit of neo-militarism on Tuesday, saying that Japan's inconsistency between its words and deeds fails to dispel the international community's concerns about Japan's "remilitarization".

Recently, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said that Japan's "exclusive defense" policy remains unchanged and that China's claims regarding Japan's neo-militarism are unfounded.

In a response, Mao told reporters in Beijing on Tuesday that, in recent years, the Japanese government has continuously increased its military budget, relaxed restrictions on the export of lethal weapons, stockpiled large quantities of sensitive nuclear materials, and pushed for a revision of Japan's pacifist constitution, repeatedly breaching the constraints of international and domestic law.

"We urge the Japanese side to learn from history, stick to its commitment to peace, and win the trust of its Asian neighbors and the international community through concrete actions," she said.
