Culinary shows attract foreign visitors to Shanghai
Gathering gourmet cuisine from all over the world, Shanghai is a megacity attracting a continuous stream of foreign consumers.
Specifically, with the broadcast of Shanghai Bites, a variety show sponsored by Jin Jiang International and a derivative of "Global Taste in Shanghai", there has been an increasing number of foreign consumers visiting hotels that participated in the contest.
Robert Feng, director of F&B, The Kunlun Jing An, said that ever since the hotel participated in "Global Taste in Shanghai", foreign visitors to the hotel increased by around one third. "The aggregation effect of food activities has significantly increased the market attractiveness of hotel catering," Feng said.
The food variety show gathered over 80 chefs from seven countries, many of which come from Jin Jiang International's 19 hotels. The Kunlun Jing An brought a creative vegetarian burger with tofu as the main ingredient and seasonal ingredients such as bamboo shoots and mushrooms, accurately capturing the current trend of lightweight and healthy consumption.
Meanwhile, Park Hotel Bakery, another hotel under Jin Jiang International, fused classic butterfly pastries and traditional Italian bread Panettone, attracting thousands of visitors.
According to Jin Jiang International, taking its four hotels in the core area of Huangpu district — Jin Jiang Tower Shanghai, Park Hotel, Golden Tulip Bund New Asia Hotel Shanghai, and Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai New World — as an example, compared to the first quarter of 2025, the ratios of foreign guests in the hotels in the first quarter of this year have been rising. The ratio of foreign guests in Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai New World has risen to 82.6 percent, while that of the other three hotels are around 40 percent.
"With the entry policies and the continuous promotion of facilitation measures, foreign tourists' coming to China have become more convenient," Zheng Bei, director of Operations Synergy Department of Jin Jiang International said. "As one of the most important international gateway cities, Shanghai has become an important market for international tourists to enter China."
"The attraction of Shanghai to foreigners also lies in its distinct local culture and vibrant atmosphere, as well as its highly internationalized dining ecology," she added. "Today's Shanghai is not only a city where you can taste local cuisine, but also an international culinary capital where you can taste the world in Shanghai".
With foreign visitors increasing, Jin Jiang Hotel Shanghai added Western style light meals and light salads into its menu. Jin Jiang Radisson Hotels launched Shanghai Gourmet Passport, offering bilingual assistance to foreign visitors to explore the city.
