5 dead, 11 missing after record floods hit Shimen, Hunan

Five people have been confirmed dead, and 11 others remain missing after record-breaking floods swept through Changde in China's Hunan province, local authorities said on Wednesday morning.
The fatalities and missing persons were reported in Shimen county, which has experienced this year's most widespread, intense, and prolonged heavy rainfall since Sunday, resulting in severe flooding along the Xieshui River. Twenty-three townships and subdistricts in the county have been affected, impacting a population of 103,247, according to the local emergency department.
Emergency rescue operations are ongoing, the department added.
