As this year's International Museum Day fell on Monday, a day when institutions are often closed, many museums and art spaces made an exception and opened their doors to the public. Exhibitions and events are being held throughout the week to encourage people to spend more time at museums, rather than on digital devices.
Academic events have also been organized to gather ideas on how museums can better serve people whose focus has been fragmented by digital content. A symposium for young scholars and curators was recently held at Beijing's Culture Palace of Nationalities, moderated by a council of museums with ethnic content from the Chinese Museums Association. Ten speakers from museums, cultural institutions and universities, on-site and online, held discussions under the theme "Bridge, Symbiosis", providing case studies and ideas about how to "forge a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation".
Diverse research perspectives, practice-oriented content, and a combination of theoretical depth and practical value were also presented.
