Xu Chuanzhi, a former deputy ministerial-level inspector with the inspection team of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has been prosecuted on charges of taking bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate announced on Monday. The case was investigated by the National Commission of Supervision before being transferred to procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution.

The SPP approved Xu's arrest on suspicion of taking bribes and accepting bribes through the use of influence, designating the People's Procuratorate of Ningbo, Zhejiang province, to handle the case. The Ningbo procuratorate recently filed a public prosecution against Xu with the Ningbo Intermediate People's Court. During the review and prosecution stage, prosecutors informed Xu of his legal rights, questioned him, and listened to the opinions of his defense counsel.

According to the indictment, Xu exploited his former positions, including posts at the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Ningxia Hui autonomous region, director of the regional supervisory commission, and deputy ministerial-level inspector with the inspection team of the CPC Central Committee, to seek benefits for others. He was also accused of using the convenience created by his authority and status to help others seek improper benefits through the conduct of other state functionaries. After leaving office, Xu allegedly continued to use the influence of his former positions to seek benefits for others.

In return, he illegally accepted money and valuables. Prosecutors stated that the amount involved was particularly large and that Xu should be held criminally responsible for bribery and accepting bribes through the use of influence.

Xu, 69, is a native of Shandong province. He began his career in 1975 and joined the CPC in 1978. He worked extensively in disciplinary inspection and supervision departments.

In 2016, Xu became secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Ningxia Hui autonomous region. In 2019, he became a deputy ministerial-level inspector with the inspection team of the CPC Central Committee and led the first inspection group of the 19th CPC Central Committee in inspections of departments including the Ministry of Public Security and the National Immigration Administration. Xu came under investigation in October 2025.
