Cross-Strait passenger routes under 'Mini Three Links' see peak travel during the holiday
Cross-Strait passenger routes under the "Mini Three Links" saw a peak in travel during the Qingming Festival holiday, with 34,100 passenger trips recorded from April 1 to 6, up 9.49 percent year-on-year, Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday.
Zhu said the "Mini Three Links" routes, which provide direct ferry services between coastal areas of Fujian province and the islands of Jinmen and Matsu, are among the most important and convenient channels for exchanges between people across the Taiwan Strait, especially between Fujian and Taiwan.
During the holiday travel rush, port authorities stepped up passenger services, improved coordination and opened green channels to ensure priority passage for ferries, Zhu said.
At the Xiamen-Jinmen route, family lanes and dedicated channels for oversized luggage remained open throughout the period. The Fuzhou-Matsu route added six round-trip sailings to meet travel demand. At the Quanzhou-Jinmen route, local authorities and a museum jointly held a Qingming-themed cultural event and exhibition on shared roots across the Strait.
Zhu said many Taiwan compatriots also took part in ancestral worship activities on both sides of the Strait during the holiday. Some traveled to Shaanxi province to attend a public ceremony honoring the Yellow Emperor, or Huangdi, the legendary common ancestor of the Chinese nation, while others returned to their ancestral hometowns on the mainland for family worship and clan gatherings.
These activities reflected the sense of kinship across the Strait, she said.
