China's domestic tourism market recorded 135 million trips during the three-day Qingming Festival holiday, or Tomb Sweeping Festival, up 6.8 percent year-on-year, data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism showed on Tuesday.

Total domestic tourism spending reached 61.37 billion yuan ($8.95 billion) during the holiday, marking a 6.6 percent increase from the same period last year. The ministry said the country's cultural and tourism market remained safe, orderly and stable.

This year's Qingming Festival fell on Sunday, with the three-day holiday running from Saturday to Monday.

Tomb sweeping activities were held across the country to honor revolutionary martyrs and ancestors. Memorial halls, cemeteries, and red tourism sites saw a peak in visits, with people laying floral wreaths and observing moments of silence.

Flower appreciation and outdoor leisure became major drivers of spring tourism consumption. Meanwhile, concerts and music festivals held during the holiday stimulated surrounding cultural and tourism spending, while nighttime tourism also grew steadily, the ministry said.

Moreover, the alignment of the Qingming holiday with school spring breaks in several regions, including Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Guizhou provinces, created a combined break of up to six days, significantly boosting family travel, it said. The share of minors on flights and high-speed trains increased, and the number of people traveling more than 800 kilometers rose notably, it said.

Family travel orders accounted for 37 percent of total tourism bookings, making families the core consumer group, it added.
