Chinese, US high school basketball teams face off in Chongqing
This initiative was first launched in 2025 by the Chongqing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China Office of Sacramento. It emphasizes youth exchange through sports and cultural programs.
Zhou Yi, executive director of the association, highlighted the festival's role as a platform for exchange, saying that it gives Chinese and American youths opportunities to hone their skills and learn from each other's cultures.
"What we are doing here goes far beyond basketball," said Antonio Yung, envoy of the China Office of Sacramento. "Today's world is complex and competitive. Yet this event shows something powerful: people from different countries, cultures, and languages can come together, compete under a common set of rules, treat one another with respect, and be both competitors and friends."
