A growing number of universities in Beijing are turning spring break into an opportunity for experiential learning by rolling out study tours, internships, and themed activities to encourage students to make more meaningful use of their time off.

Beijing Information Science & Technology University will observe its spring break from April 6 to 12. During the holiday, the university plans to organize 104 programs covering areas such as cultural heritage, innovation, community service, and global exchange, with more than 6,500 students expected to participate.

"Whether students take part in study tours, internships, and practical training, or simply watch movies and read books, the university fully supports them," said Guo Fu, president of the university.

Other institutions, including Renmin University of China, Beijing Union University, and Beijing Language and Culture University, have introduced similar programs. Activities range from social surveys and volunteer services to professional internships and ideological field trips. The Communication University of China and China Women's University have designated the period as "Spring Reading Week", while others plan practice-focused programs later in April.

At the primary and secondary level, no citywide policy has been issued so far. However, several schools in Haidian, Dongcheng, and Shijingshan districts are piloting study tours around the upcoming Qingming Festival, or Tomb Sweeping Day, which falls on April 5, blending classroom learning with cultural and social experiences.
