'Hello Beijing' cultural event showcases the metropolis' heritage and innovation
From March 21 to 22, the "Discover the Beauty of China — Hello Beijing" cultural event took place in Beijing, attracting over 40 diplomats from 12 countries. The event highlighted Beijing's latest progress in preserving its historical identity while advancing urban development, cultural integration, and tourism accessibility.
Through a mix of tourism promotions, intangible cultural heritage experiences, and site visits, the event offered international guests an up-close look at how Beijing balances tradition with modernity. Officials highlighted the city's efforts to protect ancient architectural landscapes, promote urban renewal, and enhance inbound tourism services to make the city more navigable for global visitors.
Participants shared their personal impressions of Beijing. Liu Zhengxi, a participant from Egypt, spoke about his experience living and working in the city, noting its rich cultural and tourism offerings as well as its growing accessibility for international travelers. He also recommended seasonal sightseeing routes on the city's outskirts, where natural scenery and deep cultural heritage combine to offer a unique visitor experience.
At the historic Tongrentang traditional Chinese medicine center, diplomats embarked on a hands-on cultural journey. They observed traditional diagnostic practices—known as "looking, listening, asking, and feeling"—explored medicinal herbs and tools, and crafted herbal sachets for seasonal wellness.
The group also visited the Yanjing Eight Wonders Museum, where they admired masterpieces of imperial craftsmanship, including cloisonné, jade carving, lacquerware, and filigree inlay. The intricate artistry and detailed commentary left a lasting impression, underscoring the richness of China's traditional skills.
In Qianmen, an exhibition titled "Hello Beijing" showcased the city's fusion of ancient and modern landscapes. Guests also attended a fashion show during the 2026 Beijing International Fashion Week, gaining insight into the capital's growing creative industries and vibrant contemporary culture.
