Minister of Culture and Tourism Sun Yeli stressed on Saturday the importance of implementing more proactive cultural and economic policies and boosting cultural programs.

"We should improve the systems for cultural industries and markets, and launch more high-quality cultural products and services that satisfy the public," said Sun at a news conference for the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics revealed that in 2025, enterprises above the designated size engaged in culture and related industries achieved business revenue of about 15 trillion yuan ($2.17 trillion), up by 7.4 percent year-on-year. These enterprises achieved total profits of about 1.4 trillion yuan, up by 6.5 percent year-on-year.

With the improvement of living standards and aesthetic appreciation, people have higher requirements for the quality of cultural products, he noted.

"We must prioritize the creation of high-quality works, implement a series of art creation projects for the new era, guide literary and art workers to strengthen their awareness of producing fine works and enhance their original creativity, and launch more outstanding literary and artistic works that the general public would love to read, watch and listen to," he said.

He believes it's essential to improve the quality and accessibility of public cultural services, build and make good use of various cultural and museum venues, as well as new types of cultural spaces.

"We should bring more high-quality cultural resources directly to the grassroots, and enable urban and rural residents to enjoy cultural services more conveniently," he said.

"Meanwhile, we need to respond to the growing cultural creativity and initiative of the people and promote new forms of literature and art for the general public in the internet age."

According to him, the general public is no longer satisfied with reading, watching and listening, but is more eager to actively participate. The development of artificial intelligence, in particular, has significantly lowered the threshold for public participation.

"We should develop new forms of literature and art, so that every passion can find a stage and every talent can demonstrate one's ability," he said.
