A demand slump, fueled by President Donald Trump's tariffs, has begun to impact US ports and air freight operations, according to a Financial Times article published on April 27.

The article highlighted that US' trade war with China is starting to affect the broader US economy, as container port operators and air freight managers report steep declines in goods transported from China.

Logistics groups cited in the article noted that container bookings to the US have dropped sharply following the introduction of 145 percent tariffs on Chinese imports. Similarly, air freight handlers have reported significant declines in bookings.

John Denton, secretary-general of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), remarked that the disruption in China-US trade flows reflects traders "kicking decisions down the road" as they await to see how quickly Washington and Beijing can reach an agreement to ease tariffs.
