Treaties between China and Japan after normalization of bilateral relations

Joint Statement between the government of the People's Republic of China and the government of Japan was signed in Beijing on Sept 29, 1972. On Sept 25, 1972, the Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka visited China. On Sept 29, the Chinese and Japanese governments issued Sino-Japanese Joint Statement, which established diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and Japan. Specifically, the treaty ended the "abnormal relations between Japan and China", recognized the People's Republic of China as the "sole government of China" and renounced any claim for war reparations during World War II from Japan. It firmly maintains its stand under Article 8 of the Potsdam Declaration. [Full text]
