WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama on Wednesday will announce that the US and Cuba have reached an agreement to reopen embassies in Washington and Havana, local media reported, quoting senior US officials.

"We will formally announce tomorrow that the United States and Cuba have reached an agreement to re-establish formal diplomatic relations and open embassies in each other's capitals," one senior US administration official told CNN.

The US and Cuba have been talking on the re-establishment of embassies after last December's relation-restoring announcement.

The ending of Washington's half-century freeze with Havana is seen as a major foreign policy legacy of the Obama administration.
