Iran, IAEA to meet on Feb 8 to push on co-op

TEHRAN - Representatives of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will meet in Tehran on Feb 8 to hold talks with the aim of determining the next step of cooperation between the two sides, Press TV reported on Friday.

Iran's Ambassador to the IAEA Reza Najafi and IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Safeguards Tero Tapio Varjoranta will lead the talks, Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said on Thursady.

The new round of talks between Iran and the UN atomic body will focus on discussing Iran's "voluntary cooperation" to respond to the ambiguities the IAEA has raised, Kamalvandi said, adding that the future trend of cooperation between Iran and the IAEA will be determined in the new round of negotiations.

Meeting is scheduled for one day and can be extended if the two sides wish to continue negotiations, Kamalvandi was quoted as saying.

The inspectors of the IAEA visited Iran's Gachin yellow cake mine in southern country in January.

The inspection took place in line with implementing an agreement signed between head of the AEOI Ali-Akbar Salehi and the IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano in Tehran on Nov 11, 2013.

IAEA inspectors also visited the Arak heavy water production plant on Dec 8, 2013 as a part of the agreement.
