OSAKA - Japanese railway company Kintetsu Corporation announced Thursday that the Abeno Harukas currently under construction in the western Japanese city of Osaka will become the tallest skyscraper in the country. ? ?

The Osaka-based railway company said workers successfully installed an 11-meter steel beam on the top of the 60-story building and the building reached a height of 300 meters as planned on Thursday morning. ? ?

The Osaka's forthcoming landmark is constructed in the southern commercial district of the city where several railway terminals including Kintetsu lines are located. ?

Upon its scheduled completion in 2014, Abeno Harukas will officially replace the Yokohama Landmark tower (296 meters) as the country's tallest building.

The 300-meter-high building will cover a total floor area of more than 300,000 square meters, including a museum, a hotel, a department store, shops, offices and restaurants, the company said.

Construction of the building began in February 2011.
