LONDON -?British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Monday confirmed that Britain has re-established a diplomatic mission in Libyan capital Tripoli.

"A diplomatic team, led by acting UK Special Representative Dominic Asquith, arrived in Tripoli today on an RAF flight," Hague told reporters.

He said the team included staff from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Department for International Development (DFID). It would join a small FCO-led advance party that was deployed to Tripoli last week, according to Hague.

The Foreign Secretary said the arrival of this team marked another significant step in the UK's relations with the new Libya, and reflected the progress the Libyan rebel National Transitional Council (NTC) had made in improving security and stability on the ground.

"It (The diplomatic mission) will help strengthen relations with the NTC authorities and support their efforts to rebuild Libya. The team will also liaise with international organizations in order to help address humanitarian needs in Tripoli and the surrounding areas," Hague said.
