HAVANA -?The Cuban parliament urged the United States Wednesday to return a Cuban man freed from a US prison, and release four other jailed Cuban nationals.

Rene Gonzalez, who was released Friday after spending 13 years in a Miami prison, has to stay in the United State on probation for another three years. All five had been imprisoned for spying since 1998.

In a statement, the National Assembly of People's Power, Cuba's legislature, warned US President Barack Obama should take full responsibility for what might happen to Gonzalez, who Havana describes as an "anti-terrorist fighter", citing possible safety risks as long as he remained on US territory.

The statement also called for joint efforts by all Cubans for the release and return of their five compatriots, who had been sentenced to prison terms ranging from 15 years to life imprisonment.

"We firmly believe that solidarity can do everything and that the just causes have to triumph over falsehood and injustice," it said.

The Cuban authorities claimed the five, considered national heroes in their homeland, were only monitoring anti-Castro groups in the southern US state of Florida to prevent terror attacks against the island.
