There were no casualties reported yet. UNIFIL Deputy Spokesperson Andrea Tenenti said investigation was underway to find the assailants, according to the report.

Meanwhile, a well-informed source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told local news site Now Lebanon that the Lebanese Armed Forces Intelligence Branch arrested a few people for allegedly being involved in the incident.

UNIFIL was mandated by UN Security Council Resolution 1701 to conduct peacekeeping missions in south Lebanon. The Resolution 1701 ended the 34-day war between Israel and the Shiite Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.

About 13,500 peacekeepers are currently serving with the UNIFIL in south Lebanon.

On June 24, 2007, a roadside bomb targeting a Spanish convoy for the UNIFIL exploded in southern Lebanon, leaving six UN peacekeepers dead.
