Millions of people all over the world are expected to participate in Global Handwashing Day on October 15. Hand washing is the easiest and most effective means of preventing the transmission of influenza viruses of all kinds, including the H1N1 swine flu virus. Diarrhoea and respiratory infections are the cause of the death of almost four million children in developing countries. Better hygiene could save the lives of over a quarter of them. SCA reaffirms its commitment to support a culture of handwashing with soap and to raise awareness about the benefits of hand hygiene.
