A Japanese delegation including Emperor Akihito visited the Forest of Stone Steles Museum in 1992. Speaking during the visit, Akihito noted the similarity of cultures between China and Japan. "The Forest of Stone Steles is very famous in Japan. Many Japanese know it. I'm so happy to see it right now," he said.

Forest of Stone Steles Museum was initially established in 1087 and is the largest and oldest steles museum in China. It features a collection of more than 3,000 steles from the Han Dynasty (206BC–AD220) to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1901). The museum records the development of Chinese culture and cultural exchanges between China and other countries.
