The April 28th, 2008 railway incident saw trains derail and clash, resulting in 72 deaths and 416 people hurt. It is reported that the speed of the train exceeded 80 kilometers per hour, with the highest speed recorded at 131 kilometers per hour.

One of the accused, Guo Jiguang, is the former deputy director in charge of transportation from Ji'nan Railway Administration. The others on trial are two dispatchers, one station watch, one assistant station watch and one train driver.
