Yang Junmei, 61, carries her disabled husband on her back to move him inside on Feb 14, 2012. In 1972, Li Yangui, Yang’s boyfriend at the time, lost his legs in an accident. Instead of leaving him, 21-year-old Yang married him and started taking care of her husband. In 1994, when Li gradually lost his sight because of diabetes, Yang promised her beloved, “I shall be your legs, and I shall be your eyes. We will lead a happy life.” For the past 40 years, Yang Junmei has looked after Li, cooking for him, walking with him, shaving him, and bathing him.
