An executive meeting of the State Council, the Cabinet, on Wednesday advanced promoting a "quality revolution" in the production of mass consumer products.

The aim is to encourage residents to purchase more products made in China. The meeting urged manufacturers to produce a greater variety of products, improve quality and enhance their brand building.

Promoting the upgrading of consumer goods and making consumption play a crucial role in economic development and industrial transformation are significant measures for the promotion of supply-side structural reform and expanding domestic demand.

Governments at all levels are required to improve their market access, cancel unnecessary approvals and examinations, abolish unreasonable charges, and support enterprises' creative design efforts, in order to promote innovation in mass consumer products and ensure effective supply. They should also cultivate the "craftsmanship spirit", promote a quality revolution in mass consumer goods and accelerate the transition from "made in China" to "designed in China". In addition, the defective products recall system should also be strengthened and strictly implemented.
