鐵帽子王 (tiěmàozi wáng): Iron-cap princes

(China Daily) Updated: 2015-03-05 08:35

Lv Xinhua, spokesman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said "there will be no 'iron-cap princes' that have immunity to scrutiny" in answer to a journalist's question whether the anti-corruption campaign might net more "big tigers", as corrupt senior officials, are known.

The "iron-cap princes" that Lv refers to are the 12 special princes during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), whose princely titles will be passed on forever through each succeeding generation. With the allusion, Lv conveyed the message that the Party will continue its nationwide anti-corruption campaign and there's no ceiling or shield for anyone no matter who he or she is.

What Lv has said shows the Party's resolve to fight corruption and zero tolerance toward corrupt officials. Lv has also said that the amount of members of 12th CPPCC National Committee whose membership has been revoked because of discipline and law violations has already equaled the total amount of revoked membership for the past two CPPCC National Committees. No official can escape from due punishment if he or she violates the Party's discipline and national law.
