If it is mineral treasure, it depends on whose land it is found and the circumstances of its finding: it is clearly defined by law. If it is a historical treasure, the value of the treasure is paid by the government, who takes ownership, and split between the finder and the owner of the land. The finder is often advised by historians as to how to ensure its preservation before being transferred to a museum.
