Guo Xicui went insane after she tried and failed to escape four times.

Guo Xicui, born in Yu county, Shanxi province, in 1926, was kidnapped by the Japanese army and forced to serve as a comfort woman at the age of 15. The almost daily rape and torture by Japanese soldiers left her battling serious diseases. After her family brought her back for treatment she was recaptured and unable to reach a full recovery. This occurred four times, and eventually she went insane.

"Seeing that my body couldn't take it anymore, other women told me, 'Escape now or you will be tortured to death here'."
