Time to sort out old rules
(China Daily)
Updated: 2008-12-24 07:41

With the year 2008 about to lapse into history, different sectors and organizations are busy reviewing their work during this year. It's high time they did away with, or updated, rules or regulations, says an article in Guangzhou Daily. The following is an excerpt:

Soon after the pledge to not raise ticket prices for the upcoming Spring Festival travel season, the Ministry of Railways recently made a further promise that it will raise the benchmark of price reduction for children by 0.1 m from the original 1.1 m-1.4 m.

Although many argued that this goodwill move is incomplete as the height for children's price reduction has not been raised, the country's railway monopolizer has made a significant step forward.

Given that today's children are better fed and cared for, it is only natural that they should grow taller and concerned regulations should be modified to comply with the changing situation. This is an issue of children's welfare protection.

Outdated limits for children's height is just one of the many anomalies.

There still exist assorted rules and regulations in different sectors and organizations that were made decades ago and have not been updated. These outdated rules are still in effect, causing inconvenience to people's daily life.
