Gao Ling won a mixed doubles gold medal at the 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympics.
She used to be the girlfriend of men's singles player Chen Hong, the two-time All England Champion.
Due to opposition from Gao's parents, however, the pair parted in 2006 and Chen retired from the national team in 2007.
He married Chinese Taipei women's doubles player Ku Pei-ting early this year.
