Generous financial support from big Korean corporations also enhances the training facilities for the sport.

The country does not invest much of its resources in archery teams. Instead, it lets domestic business tycoons develop their own clubs. Those local squads boast the world's best equipment and training facilities that can help them practice in various weather conditions, locations and noisy environments.

But the strict discipline and the Koreans' hard work ethic play the most important role in the archers' achievement.

All professional archers are required to stay in closed-door training camps when preparing for major tournaments. Players, and Olympic champions, are heavily punished if they break the rules.

"The domestic competition in South Korea is even more fierce than the Olympic Games," Lang said. "Young archers are rising up quickly to challenge the veterans. Every one of them has to work very hard to stay on the national team."
