A 4.5-magnitude earthquake hit Songming county, to the northeast of Kunming, Yunnan province, on March 9. The administrative committee of the Kunming Hi-Tech Zone started an examination on the condition of reservoirs and dams within the Zone to eliminate potential post-quake safety hazards on March 10.

The group checked all the reservoirs and dams to see whether the soil was loosened and if any crack, deformation and slope have occurred. They also checked over the canals and water pipes within the Zone.

The careful examination showed that the earthquake had not brought serious damage to the Zone. The administrative committee asked relevant departments to pay continuous attention through regular checks and report any problem.
