A contract was signed between Karamay Senior High School and Mounteves High School of Alabama, in the US, on June 16, establishing a program enabling Chinese students to study at American universities.
The program, which is run by Canadian-based Patterson Education Group, will set out a curriculum whereby Chinese students will be able to take courses in order to gain entry to any one of the top 100 universities in the US.
The program has been certified by the Authentication Committee of Teachers and Schools (ACTS) and the National Council for Private Schools Accreditation (NCPSA).
US textbooks and curriculums are to be used, and small lectures will be given by qualified teachers from Mounteves High School, in English. Chinese assistant teachers will also help the students with their study.
The annual fee of the program is approximately 75,000 yuan ($11,240) per person. There are currently 20 students enrolled in the program.
Courses such as TOFEL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) and AP (Advanced Placement) will be introduced in the future, said Zhao Guosheng, director of the International Division of Karamay High School.
