The ID cards will say "made in Karamay", and havea QR code by which consumers can learn detailed information about the products, the Karamay Daily reported.

Chen Gang, owner of 500 acres of melon fields, came to Karamay to plant melons in 2011, and adopted a method that is ecologically friendly. His melons are sweet and free from pollution.

"Consumers can learn about the grower and price, as well as the planting area of a melon by simply scanning its QR code," said Chen.

The administrative committee of the Karamay Agricultural Comprehensive Development Zone established a QR code Agricultural Products Quality Tracing System in 2014 to protect people's right to be informed about the products.

According to Li Dongmei, director of the quality inspection department of the Agricultural Comprehensive Zone, these products do not only sell locally but are very popular among consumers in other parts of the country.

Thanks to high-speed transport consumers throughout the country can enjoy fresh fruit from Xinjiang within four days. The melons are sold in cities as far away as Shanghai, Guangzhou and Jiaxing (a city in Zhejiang province).
