According to some popular folk songs of Shanxi province, this particular beef along with the pancakes of Taigu and Xinghuacun Fen wine are quite famous. In fact, tasty Pingyao beef and scented Fen wine are known around the world.
This is a specialty of Pingyao county in Jinzhong area and is said to have been very famous during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). At a food exhibition in Beijing, in 1956, Pingyao beef was rated a famous Chinese food sold in North Korea, Mongolia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.
