Shanxi Construction Engineering Co, a Shanxi-based company, will help build a highway in Ethiopia, according to a recently signed agreement worth 310 million yuan ($46.64 million).
The highway in Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' region, and the Oromia region, is expected to extend 92.5 kilometers in total.
It is expected to take Shanxi Construction Engineering and Shandong Highway Group 42 months to finish the work. Once completed, the highway will greatly improve traffic flow and help drive the economy.
Shanxi Construction Engineering Co was established and restructured from Shanxi Construction Engineering Group in 2016. The Ethiopian project was the company’s first move to take part in the Belt and Road Initiative.
