| Qiao Zhiyong (1818-1907) |
Qiao Zhiyong was born in Qi county, Shanxi province. He took over his family business at a young age, and made it the largest and richest in Shanxi with his good business acumen.
In the beginning, Qiao set up Dadexing, mainly dealing with tea business. He later saw the great potential of remittance business and established a bank based on tea shops, and renamed his business Dadetong.
When the country suffered tremendous turbulence in the second half of the 1800s, Qiao provided a great deal of financial support to the government.
