At 8:30 p.m., March 29, the Earth Hour of 2014, Le Meridian Hotel participated in the worldwide event with over 200 million people in 7000 other cities in 150 countries.

The hotel adopted a series of measures to response to the call to "create a blue sky". For example, it closed outside lighting, turned down or switched off unnecessary indoor lighting, used candles in its dining rooms and bar, and gave the background to the event through its guestroom TVs.

The hotel also specially invited Yin Jiawei, a distinguished artist, to provide a live performance. She ingeniously turned waste bottles into beautiful artworks. The hotel also prepared two electric bicycles, which require only pedaling to generate electricity to turn on small lightbulbs. Hotel employees, as well as many guests, took part riding the bikes with a poster showing the calories you burn for an hour's ride.

Last year, Earth Hour became a record-breaking environmental movement with the largest participation in the world. The lighting for landmark buildings around the world remained dark for an hour in tribute to the earth.
