Great paintings fascinate passengers in subway

High quality copies of Wu Guanzhong’s classic paintings, provided by the China Art Museum, have been on display in Pudian Road station of subway Line Four in Shanghai. Wu was a contemporary Chinese painter widely recognized as a founder of modern Chinese painting.

It is the first time that national treasure masterpieces have been exhibited in subways. More great art work will offer enjoyment of culture and art to people in these stations.

Seeking to enhance publicity, openness and interactivity, subway stations have formed a subway public culture to develop urban culture.

The two paintings – The Lion Grove Garden (also known as Lion Woods) and The Ancient Town of Lijiang at the Foot of the Yulong Mountains – provide a window for citizens to enjoy Chinese paintings every day.

In addition, as a participant of the first Shanghai Citizens Art Festival, the Shanghai Metro also organizes various activities, including a “Music Corner” musical performance and a photography exhibition. Passengers can get enjoy the music and art without going to art centers or exhibition halls.

The “Music Corner” has given more than 20 performances since its debut on Jan 1, 2013.
