After six rounds of fierce debate, Yang Tangtang and her team from the Ningbo Foreign Language School became champions in the Zhejiang qualifier for the National High School Academic Debate.

NSDA was initiated in 1925 in the United States to encourage secondary school students to practice public speech and debate. The debate in China is also conducted in English.

A total of 134 school teams took part in the debate, including Hangzhou Foreign Language School, Fuyang High School and Shanghai Foreign Language School, said Chen Lijun, deputy principal of Ningbo Foreign Language School.

Chen said another team from her school also won the preliminary of the "Rising Star" China Chemistry Challenge. Two students scored the highest in the contest, which was initiated by the British Royal Society of Chemistry.
