Forsterite, a green and transparent high-quality material for refractory bricks, is in great demand. According to a survey by the National Committee of Reserves, the prospective reserves of forsterite in Xixia is around 200 million tons, far more than the reserves in the rest of China. The magnesium oxide in forsterite produced in Xixia county reaches 44 percent. Now Xixia has six magnesium ore dressing and processing enterprises, with an annual production of 20,000 tons of foundry sand.
