Tai Chi Culture Festival to hit Zhanjiang

Echoing the city's plan for fitness for all, a Tai Chi Culture Festival will be held in Zhanjiang from Oct 28 to Nov 4. To warm up, a Tai Chi for Health promotion event got underway in Chikan district on Sept 3.
Tai chi, a perfect blend of healthcare, fitness and athletics, soaks up the essence of Chinese traditional martial arts, medicine, philosophy, military science, aesthetics and sports. In support of the upcoming Tai Chi Culture Festival, the promotion is part of publicity activities to bring tai chi into local communities and help residents strengthen their bodies, said Chen Zhangzhi, president of Zhanjiang Tai Chi Association.

Through the promotions, displays and competitions, tai chi is expected to become a widespread concept and popular way of keeping fit among local residents. Hopefully, Zhanjiang will bolster itself as a tai chi cultural center in the Beibu Gulf region, Chen added.
According to an executive from Zhanjiang Municipal Association for Science and Technology, the promotion of tai chi in communities is a livelihood project. The tai chi performances and teaching demonstrations during the promotion event in a Chikan community have been well received by residents.
